What is the best alcohol to use for a hot toddy?

I'm sick as a dog and can't sleep. Tired of putting Nyquil in my system so I want to make a hot toddy. Is there a particular type of alcohol that is best for a flu/cold? I've googled hot toddy and found bourbon and whisky, but I don't like either of those. Would rum work? What is best?
